Is home birthing a good method to deliver a baby

// December 28th, 2009 // No Comments » // News / Society

One way of delivering a baby is through the use of a midwife. Usually the midwife is a licensed professional although not a nurse or a doctor.They usually assist in the delivery of babies the natural way.  Many times the delivery is done at home. Because the midwife isn’t a doctor or a nurse or the delivery is done at home people question whether it is safe.In this article we would discuss about how safe this method is.

First of all as a San Diego midwife this allows me to answer these questions with knowledge.  The main thing people are concerned about is safety.Well you might be surprised but midwives are also trained to handle emergencies during the delivery of the babies.And most of the things that can happen during a delivery midwives are ready to handle.

Next they worry about the fact the delivery is done at home. The concern is there isn’t emergency medical equipment or doctors around.  But in general in my midwives San Diego service I only take women who are healthy.  In other words if there are concerns medically I will let them deliver in a hospital.Or if they had some issues regarding the delivery of babies before then I would also recommend them to go to the hospital.

A midwife does have in her presence when delivering babies the necessary equipments in case of an emergency. But usually because of the natural birth process you would be surprised to know there aren’t many complications. That is the general experience of my San Diego licensed midwife service. Usually the complications in a hospital are due to the drugs they use.And these complications would be lessened if the delivery is done the natural way.

So hopefully you would see that this method of delivery is a safe way to go deliver a baby.So if you are planning to go natural you must learn more about it.You will be amazed at all the benefits it can give the baby and the mother.You will learn that this method can give more benefits than risks.

Waterbirth for delivering your child

// November 14th, 2009 // No Comments » // News / Society

Waterbirthing is one way of giving birth to babies which can be one option for mothers but they don’t usually know. This is the delivery where an expectant mother is placed in a tub filled with water.And then that is where she will deliver the baby. There are a lot of benefits that one can get from this method.And even if it is not that popular more and more women are now undergoing this method.In this article, we are going to talk about the benefits that mothers and babies can get from using this method.

What’s good about this method is that it has a lot of benefits in store for the babies and also the expectant mothers. As a San Diego licensed midwife I have seen it firsthand.  The benefits to the woman is that the water soothes some of the labor pains.And it also relaxes the muscles.  This allows for a quicker delivery.

Another benefit is the fact that because it soothes the muscles and eases the pain is no drugs.Waterbirthing lets mothers have their babies naturally most of the time. I have seen it a lot of times while having a San Diego waterbirth.Women who usually use pain-relieving drugs while giving birth do not have to when undergoing this method.  The water and soothing aspect allows them to withstand the pain. This is good for women who really don’t want any drugs during delivery.This is because they have the fear that drugs used during the delivery will be harmful to the baby’s health.

And the benefits for the baby are as follows. The baby lived in water in his/her mother’s womb for nine months.  By having the baby deliver into water reduces the shock they have.Since the baby will be delivered straight into the water then the baby will experience less stress.It is stressful enough for the baby to undergo a delivery.  By reducing it a little bit it helps.  And these waterbirths can be performed by most San Diego midwives.They have the know how in this type of delivery.And as shown it brings a lot of benefits for the mother and the baby as well.

Things that midwives do during a pregnancy

A lot of important choices need to be made if a woman is pregnant. She needs to go choose a doctor that suits her needs and wants.  More than likely they need to choose a hospital.And other important things as well.  What most women don’t realize they can also choose a natural delivery. That is when mothers do not want drugs to be administered on them during the delivery itself. As a lot more people become health-conscious this method is gaining popularity.A profession that really helps in this area is called midwifery.

What is the definiton of midwifery?  It is the practice of assisting women to give birth naturally. There are other defintions. But this defintion is the simplest one.  As a San Diego licensed midwife that is the job which is to help a woman attempt to deliver naturally.There can be a lot of benefits from this.The main benefit, of course, is the use of no drugs at all during the delivery. Plus without using drugs it actually helps the delivery proceed faster.  Because most drugs slow down pregnancy.

Now not only are women attempting to deliver naturally there are some choosing the home.  They are choosing the home to deliver their baby.This different from what people are usually doing.  But it offers a lot of benefits.  As a midwives San Diego I have been able to see these benefits firsthand.The privacy of the place is one benefit a mother can get from this method.Intrusive medical procedures are less needed also because the way of giving birth is the natural way.

There will definitely be objections and sceptics will not stop looking for something to criticize.  Some say there are safety concerns.But if the pregnancy is a low-risk one then this method is very safe.  Now of course it isn’t recommended if the pregnancy is considered high risk.  In my San Diego midwife practice I always advise my clients to go with the normal delivery in a hospital if it is high risk.So that if anything happens it can be immediately attended to by a doctor.

The safety of a homebirth

// October 9th, 2009 // No Comments » // News / Society

One of the things that women can choose when having a baby is how they will deliver the baby. When I say how they will deliver I am referring to a hospital delivery or a homebirth. Most women don’t realize they have that choice mainly because they don’t realize that homebirths are safe.But of course there will be skeptics who don’t believe in this method.  But with careful research they can see there is a lot of evidence to show that it is.

There are definitely critics who do not believe in the safety of a homebirth.  From my observations from my practice as a midwife in San Diego I have found it to be absolutely safe. I have witnessed 300 homebirths and I can say that the dangers are just the same either you deliver a baby at home or at the hospital.  Having it in a hospital or at home doesn’t minimize those risks.On the ohter hand, the risks also would not increase because of this.

So what would be the main threat of undergoing a procedure like this?One reason is that complications might happen while giving birth and this worries people.They think that people who assist in homebirths are not nurses.  Well as a midwives San Diego we do know medical procedures.We have all the required medical equipment for all the common complications that appear when giving birth.A doctor is obviously needed whenever any serious complications arise from gving birth at home.But that is not far from what happens in a hospital.

Women who have low risk pregnancies are the only women recommended for homebirths.  If a woman is found to have possible complications any good midwife would not encourage this method.  This is standard procedure for all licensed midwife in San Diego.This is standard procedure because they are limited in the medical procedures that they can do.  That is why they do make sure any high risk pregnancies are delivered in a hospital.

For those who do not like this method it will be very hard to convince them to do so.  But for those women who see this as an alternative they should understand it is safe.

Choices you have for pregnancy

One of the happiest times for a woman is during pregnancy.Quite a few women desire to have children.  The time of pregnancy is the time when those desires come true.

During the pregnancy plenty of choices and decisions are going to have to be made.One of the things to think about is which method of delivery will be used.It is a little strange to imply that there are different options be there are.  A lot of women usually go with using medicine to help deliver a baby.But there is a strong movement of women who make the choice of going natural.In other words no use of medicine to help with the delivery.  I have seen this from first hand experience as a San Diego midwife.  It is from that experience that I want to share some benefits.

So why is it that quite a few women are opting for a non medical delivery.  A couple of reasons.  First of all most women are realizing using medicine actually slows down the pregnancy.  When you are in pain and want to deliver as fast as possible, medicine defeats the purpose.  Many women are starting to realize that.What a lot of women fail to understand is that they are able to do it in that fashion. If they make the choice to have it done that way, they can utilize the services of a midwife.  In my part of the country there are quite a few midwives in San Diego.

A midwife has the ability to assist a women to have a gentle delivery.  They could choose a waterbirth.  Waterbirth is the use of water to aid in soothing the pain and helping the delivery.

Also if a woman goes with that choice, a midwife can also assist in a home delivery also. Once again you can find a homebirth midwife in San Diego if you look.

The many benefits of having the delivery at home is that the environment is less stressed and more relaxed. These two benefits makes a natural delivery inviting.  If you are pregnant, it might be a choice you would want to make.

Why you should choose a waterbirth delivery

The birthing of a baby is one of the most cherished moments of a woman’s life.The happiness of being able to deliver a new life is like nothing else.  Although it comes with great pain, most women will agree it is worth it.

As a San Diego midwife I would like to share with you a method that you might not be aware of.  It is called waterbirth.

Waterbirth has been called probably of all the methods of delivery the gentlest.  It requires the use of a heatedwater bath or a pool.You will find some women will use during the labor the water part.  They do this because the heated water is pain relieving.It is relaxing to the tissues.

Other women will also delivery the baby through it.They remain in the water through the whole delivery.Even till the placenta is delivered all the way through.

The entire procedure is usually administered by someone that is referred to as a midwife.  If you are in San Diego there are plenty of midwives San Diego.  You will want to find an experienced one.

Why do some women choose this procedure over the hospital? As mentioned, labor and delivery is very painful.  Most women use drugs to cope with the pain.But for quite a few women they do not want to introduce drugs into their body in fear of harming the baby.Using this method of waterbirth helps reduce the pain.  Because of the
heated water it soothes the tissues and helps with the pain.

Most women will go through this procedure naturally.They won’t ask or use any drugs to help lessen the pain of labor and delivery.  Often times this actually helps the labor happen faster.  Because the use of drugs usually slows down the labor.

It is actually a very safe alternative of delivery.  For women looking to having their baby naturally this might be the way to go.  I have seen many happy deliveries as a San Diego licensed midwife.All it will require of a woman is to do a little research and see for themselves
how safe it is.

Delivery Method other than Medical Procedures

// August 16th, 2009 // No Comments » // News / Society

One of the effects that is sad due to our modern day and time in medicine is labor and delivery are pretty much medical procedures.

That may sound strange because most people consider delivery to be a medical event.But that is the main issue.  It is not a medical event.It is an occassion that can be kept as private and as natural as possible through alternate methods.  Women
should be notified to the fact there are alternate ways.

I would like to present one of those main alternatives from the perspective of a San Diego midwife.

That main alternative is having a homebirth midwife to assist you in your delivery.  This practice is known as midwifery and there are plenty of midwives San Diego.

As cesareans and induction rates soar in hospitals, it has turned the joyous event of a delivery into an negative experience.

That is a big factor of this push you see of women seeking more natural methods of delivery through midwives that are either certified or licensed.

Birth and the delivery shouldn’t necessarily include drugs, invasive procedures, private areas constantly being probled, etc.   It can be done safely and effectively in a home environment through that homebirth method or even a waterbirth San Diego method.

It is a service that does have high regulation.You are able to find out about the skill and experience of the midwife who you are considering hiring.

But getting over that stigma of not having a baby in a hospital takes education.But most women can see if they looked and through experience that statistics prove that a good amount of times having a baby in a hospital can negatively effect the process.From potent drugs that are used ot slow the pregnancy down, or used to increase the speed of the pregnancy.  To having to go through a c-section.  Hopefully women can compare and contrast and see the success of having a midwife.

So for women who seek to keep a birth and delivery a happy occasion, midwifery might be something to look into.

With the dawn of the internet age, being able to find information about the natural process is as simple as doing a search on the internet.

There they should be able to find helpful information of the process to help them fully understand.  They can see the safey issues and how they are addressed.  And most of all they can see how they can truly keep child birth a momentous occasion that can happily and privately as possible.

Choosing a midwife safely

// August 14th, 2009 // No Comments » // News / Society

Pregnancy, what a wonderful time for a woman.  Well, I guess aside from the sickness.But beyond that, the new baby coming is an exciting expectation.

Usually, for a lot of women, how they are going to deliver the baby isn’t the big question.  Because most women will go the standard route of a medical procedure involving hospitals, drugs, and doctors.

But for some women, an alternative is available.That alternate way is going through a midwife and having the baby naturally.  And it is that alternative I am going to share from my experience as a San Diego midwife.

For those that don’t know, midwives are women who perform natural, no drugs, deliveries.  This means usually no doctors.

Often times midwives in San Diego perform these services at homes.  Although, maybe all this is foreign to most people, it is a safe and regulated alternative way to deliver a baby.

The women, or midwives who practice this service are fully regulated.They can be licensed midwives or certified midwives that have a regulatory board that oversees them.

Sometimes the midwife can be a nurse, but that doesn’t have to be the case.

This form of delivery is an option a lot of women choose and includes waterbirth in San Diego. Mostly the choice is made by women because they do not want any drugs during delivery and to prevent any drugs entering the new baby.Also it is for women who want to avoid invasive procedures like episiotomys.

Well when you are making decisions as big as how you are going to deliver, you obviously want them to be the right choices.With anything, you want to be sure you choose the right person.

As mentioned before, this industry is highly regulated. In that case, it is pretty easy to find a good licensed midwife.

All you are going to need to do is get the contact information for your state regulatory board that oversees midwifery and you can easily find out if there have been any complaints or issues with your prospective midwife.

With this step, you can find out if it is a quality midwife and someone you can trust.  Obviously once you find that there are no complaints or reports against the midwife, you also want to check references.

You will want to find that midwife whose client base only have high praises for them.  With something as intimate and important as a delivery following these few steps will help you find the right midwife for your delivery.
