Star Spotting: 50 Cent And Chace Crawford Are Sharply Dressed Men

// July 30th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Music

I doubt 50 Cent was asking Chace Crawford for spoilers from the upcoming season of “Gossip Girl,” nor is it likely that Crawford was pumping 50 for behind-the-scenes tales about the recording of Get Rich Or Die Trying.

Though both of those scenarios are providing us with no end of amusement, the two were together to celebrate their new film, “Twelve,” which held its premiere party last night. In the Joel Schumacher-directed film, Crawford takes the role usually reserved for 50, playing a drug dealer. 50, on the other hand … well he plays a drug dealer, too. So much for range.

Anyway, the premiere was last night and MTV’s cameras were there to catch all the commotion, of which there was a fair amount. President Barack Obama‘s visit to NYC caused many of the film’s stars to be tardy for the party.

Check out the video below. “Twelve” hits theaters on August 6.

Song You Need To Know: Usher, ‘Hot Toddy,’ Featuring Jay-Z And Ester Dean

// July 30th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Music

The discourse surrounding beverages has always been a constant in hip-hop and R&B. 20 years ago, Snoop and Dre turned the 40-ounce bottle of malt liquor into a rap accessory.

But as the years have gone on and on, hip-hop and R&B have turned their backs on the bargain basement beverages and moved into more refined tastes, espousing the joys of Pino Grigio and rose wine. Which brings us to two of hip-hop and R&B’s biggest names blowing up the cocktail of choice for aristocrats suffering from chest colds. Yup, it’s Usher, Jay-Z and Ester Dean‘s “Hot Toddy,” from Usher’s forthcoming EP, Versus. New Usher EP? Yup, after the success of “OMG” and “Hey Daddy,” he’s striking while the proverbial iron is still proverbially hot. And with “Hot Toddy,” he comes out of the gate strong.

Despite being named after a cocktail of whiskey, hot water and lemon, this track is pretty slick. With a slithering beat courtesy of Polow da Don, Usher spits game at a girl, while Jay-Z spits game to the mirror, mirror on the wall, all while Ester Dean wails in the background.

Check the song out below, along with Usher’s “Hey Daddy” video. Drink it up, folks.

The Cast Of ‘Glee’ Shares Their Obsessions And Favorite Things With The MTV Buzzworthy Blog

// December 3rd, 2009 // No Comments » // Music

Give the cast of Glee two microphones (and Lea Michele’s turntable), and watch them go crazier than a lot of tots on an unsupervised Halloween candy binge.

The cast of Glee — Lea Michele, Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Mark Salling, and Jenna Ushkowitz — visited the MTV Buzzworthy Blog, and the format was simple: Grab a mic and shared 10 things they think are cool.

What ensued was a total free-for-all obsession-/ gush-fest that included fixations on criminal records, sai swords, corvids, Passion Pit on vinyl, bowties, Hungry Hippos, Amber Riley’s Oprah Winfrey impression, Chuck Taylors, dudes with braces, and an impromptu “Family Matters” theme song serenade. I also walked away with a cast drawing.

If you, like me, are ruing the hiatus of Glee (DAMN YOU, FOX! DAAAAMNNN YOUUUU!), this seven-plus-minute video of the cast of Glee sharing the things they love (both inexplicable and otherwise.)

It’s mtvU Woodies Wednesday!

// October 22nd, 2009 // No Comments » // Music

The leaves are leaving the trees and the kids are back in school. It’s starting to look like Woodie weather out there, no?

MTVU’s annual award show–held this year on December 4th–honors those artists who put it down on college campuses everywhere; celebrating the music the kids listen to while studying to become the future leaders of America, etc. And the best part about this show? You can vote to determine who wins!

This year features a really healthy crop of artists. Let’s take a gander at some of the categories and nominees, shall we?

For the Woodie of the Year Award, for the artist who made the biggest splash on college campuses this year, we’ve got Asher Roth, Kings Of Leon, Drake, Silversun Pickups and MGMT.

In the category of Breaking Woodie, which honors up and coming artists who have made headway with the kids, the nominees are Grizzly Bear, Never Shout Never, Wale, La Roux, Friendly Fires and Passion Pit.

Probably my favorite category, Left Field Woodie, which features artists who defy classification, features nominees like Amanda Blank, Major Lazer, Janelle Monae and P.O.S.

You can also vote in the categories Performing Woodie, Good Woodie and College Radio Woodie, BMOC Woodie and Best Video Woodie.

New Video Teaser: Weezer’s, ‘(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To’

// October 22nd, 2009 // No Comments » // Music

Hey, I just got back from my weekly meeting where me and a bunch of people re-enact the part in 300 where we all holler, “SPARTA!” But instead of hollering “SPARTA” we scream “WEEZER,” because, Spartans, Raditude is coming.

Weezer’s 7th platter is due on November 3rd and will apparently feature a Lil Wayne/Jermain Dupri collabo called “Can’t Stop Partying.” Your mind…it is blown.

Before all that we get this: the first video, “(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To.” And before we really get to that, we get a teaser vid. Looks some more retro hotness; this time the boys are doing the darkside of the 50′s (as opposed to the happy-go-Happy-Days of “Budd Holly“). Stay tuned for the full video, coming soon.

Adam Lambert, On Kris Allen & Allison Iraheta: ‘We Kind Of Make Fun Of Each Other A Lot’

// October 16th, 2009 // No Comments » // Music

The “American Idols Live!” tour may be done and gone — booooo — but Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, and Allison Iraheta are onto bigger and better things. Adam Lambert is putting the gloss on his debut album, featuring the Twitter- and Idolsphere-busting single, “Time For Miracles” from the upcoming disaster flick, 2012. Kris Allen is living life as a winner, about to release his debut, and covering his favorite shower song, “Hit Me… Baby One More Time.” Meanwhile Allison Iraheta’s “Friday I’ll Be Over U” could catapult her into the ranks of Pink, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, and Fefe Dobson (and did I hear a little Berlin in there? “The Metro,” anyone?)

But let’s look back at a time when it was easier to get Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, and Allison Iraheta all together in the same room (without Simon Cowell, hm?)

Check out this Walmart Soundcheck interview with Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert, and Kris Allen, to see the always amicable Idols, on the “American Idols Live!” tour, discuss spending life on the road together, and the good-natured teasing that goes with the territory.

// October 16th, 2009 // No Comments » // Music

Unless you’ve been enjoying an active career as a cave dweller then you’re already well aware that TOKIO HOTEL IS MAKING THEIR NOBLE RETURN TO MTV. (I think I already saw a few of you camped outside in the rain!)

Tokio Hotel be here this Monday, October 19, when they’ll be the guests of honor and perform live on an all-new episode of It’s On With Alexa Chung.

And what would a Tokio trip to MTV be without BUZZWORTHY FAN QUESTIONS? Got questions for Bill, Tom, Gustav, and/or Georg? Make ‘em good ones (generally I’m a pretty nice person, but I WILL make fun of you if I read comments like “Are Bill and Tom related?”) and leave your questions in the comments below!

Need some question-submitting inspiration? Watch parts three — in which Tom wants to spend the night with Jessica Alba — and part four (where Bill eats the gummi rat!) of Buzzworthy’s Tokio Hotel fan interviews from last year. And watch part 1 and part 2!

What Were U Thinking: Ashley Greene Reveals Her Best And Worst Fashion Looks And Her Favorite Charity

// October 13th, 2009 // No Comments » // Music

The best way to handle a fashion faux pas — like say, for example, wearing jeans with suspenders — is admitting that your look wasn’t quite right. Which is exactly what Ashley Greene does in this brand-new episode of MTV.com’s “What Were U Thinking.” No, jeans and suspenders isn’t the best look, but at least Ashley Greene — for whom it’s pretty hard NOT to look fantastic — cops to it and moves on.

See which looks Ashley Greene got wrong and which she got absolutely right, like the black dress and Jimmy Choos she wore to the premiere of Twilight. Plus, find out more about the dress she wore to the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, and see which dress had boats on it and secret tutu underneath!

And find out more about Ashley Greene’s amazing charity of choice, Donateyourdress.org.

Couldn’t make it to Athens for Tokio Hotel’s MTV Greece MTV Day performance? Boo! Me either. Check out these stunning photos of Tokio Hotel rocking Athens on Friday, October 9, shot by Chris Kissadjekian. Bill Kaulitz’s new fauxhawk looks phenoms in action, Tom and Georg have their Slash stance down pat, and unfortunately you can’t really see Gustav, but I’m sure he looked epic too. The Grosses kino bar has been RAISED!
